Namaste Mars
As part of India’s Independence day speech, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced that India has palnned it’s own ambitious mission to Mars. The Rs. 450 crore(80 Million USD) Mars Orbiter Mission is expected to be launched in November 2013 with a 25 kg scientific payload. This missions tentative scientific objective is studying the climate, geology, origin, evolution and sustainability of life on the planet. While the debate over spending such amount on a space mission rages on in the country, it is definitely an encouraging sign for the Indian scientific community. Thousands of crores of rupees are allegedly embezzled by the Indian politicians and are yet to be bought to justice. Innumerous number of audacious scams rock the country every other month. People questioning ISRO’s missions are morons of the highest order. Agreed India has problems that are to be solved at the very basic level such as having proper roads, uninterrupted electricity, civic amenities, poverty and what not. But these reasons should not be hurdles for anything that is scientific and just. Infact projects like these are morally uplifting and ushers optimism among the masses. Looking forward for a successful completion of Mars Orbiter Mission.
